Commonwealth nations:Boycott Sri Lanka Summit 2013

அன்புடையீர்,
2009ம் ஆண்டு மே மாதம் இலங்கையின் குருதி தோய்ந்த உள்நாட்டு யுத்தம் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான உயிர்களை இழந்து முடிவுக்கு வந்தது. ஐ.நா. மதிப்பீடுகள் படி 40,000க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்களும், வேறு உள்ளக மதிப்பீடுகள் படி 100,000க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்களும் தமது உயிர்களை இழந்துள்ளதாகத் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. சர்வதேச சமூகங்கள் போர் குற்றங்கள் தொடர்பாக நம்பகமான சுயாதீனமான விசாரணைகளை வலியுறுத்தின. எனினும், இலங்கை அரசு சர்வதேச சமூகத்தின் இந்த 'நியாயமான' கோரிக்கையை அலட்சியப்படுத்தியது. உள்நாட்டு யுத்தம் முடிந்திருந்தாலும் மனித உரிமைகள் மற்றும் ஜனநாயகம் போன்றவை பெரிய கவலை அளிப்பதாகவே தொடர்கின்றது. தொடர்ந்தும் இலங்கைத் தமிழர்கள் இன்னும் சந்தேகமாகப் பார்க்கப்படுவதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. இலங்கையில் வடக்கு மற்றும் கிழக்கு மக்கள் பரம்பலை மாற்ற இலங்கை அரசு முயற்சிக்கின்றது.
இலங்கை பொதுநலவாய(காமன்வெல்த்) சாசனத்தின் மனித உரிமைகள், கருத்துச் சுதந்திரம், சட்டத்தின் ஆட்சி, சகிப்புத்தன்மை, மரியாதை, ஜனநாயகம் போன்ற காமன்வெல்த் சாசனக் கோட்பாடுகளை மதிப்பதில்லை. இவ்வாறான நாட்டிற்கு பொதுநலவாயத் தலைவர்கள் செல்வது திட்டமிட்ட இனப்படுகொலை மற்றும் இலங்கை அரசு செய்த போர் குற்றங்களை ஒப்புதல் செய்வதாக இருக்கும். இது முறையற்றதும் மற்றும் உரிமைகளை மதிக்காத நாடுகளுக்கு தவறான செய்தியையும் கொடுக்கும் என நாம் கருதுகிறோம்.
எனவே பொதுநலவாயத் தலைவர்கள் முடிவை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்து பொதுநலவாய உச்சி மாநாட்டைப் புறக்கணிக்க வேண்டும் அல்லது இலங்கை தவிர்ந்த பிறிதொரு நாட்டில் மாநாட்டை நடத்த வேண்டுமெனத் தாழ்மையுடன் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறோம்.
குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட வீடியோக்களைப் பார்த்த பிறகு, இலங்கை போன்ற ஒரு நாட்டில் விருந்தோம்பல் பொருத்தமானது என நீங்கள் நினைத்தால், காமன்வெல்த் கோட்பாடுகள் இலங்கை போன்ற மனித உரிமைகளை மீறும் அரசுகளுக்கானதாகவும், தமிழர்களாகிய நமக்கு பொருத்தமற்றதானது என்ற முடிவுக்கே எம்மை இட்டுச்செல்லும். இச்சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் இலங்கை பொதுநலவாய சாசனக் கோட்பாடுகளை நிறைவேற்றும் வரை இலங்கையைப் பொதுநலவாய நாடுகளிலிருந்து நீக்க வேண்டுமெனக் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறோம்.

Dear Sir or Madam,
It was May 2009 when the bloody civil war in Sri Lanka came to an end at a cost of thousands of lives. According to UN estimates over 40,000 people lost their lives while it could be well over 100,000 lives as per liberal estimates. The international communities have been insisting on a credible independent investigations into alleged war crimes. However, Sri Lanka sees little point in giving into what we would term is a 'legitimate' demand of the international community. Human rights and Democracy continues to be a major concern despite the end of the civil war and it is alleged Lankan Tamils are more suspiciously viewed. Sri Lanka is committed to alter the demographics of the North and the East.
In our opinion, Sri Lanka has failed to uphold the commonwealth values as outlined in the Commonwealth Charter mainly- human rights, freedom of expression, rule of law, tolerance, respect and understanding and democracy -and the presence of the Heads of the commonwealth would only endorse the systematic genocide and war crimes committed by the Lankan Government and could possibly set a dangerous precedence to the rest of the world.
We therefore beg you to reconsider your decision and request you to either move the venue out of Sri Lanka or boycott the Commonwealth Summit. We request you to consider our humble plea. If even after watching the following videos as referenced, you feel it is appropriate to respond positively to the hospitality of a country like Sri Lanka, we may have to revisit the values of Commonwealth and forcefully conclude that it is not meant for Tamils but specifically designed for countries like Sri Lanka. We also take this opportunity to demand Sri Lanka be removed from the commonwealth till it shows progress in the Commonwealth charter to the satisfaction of the Commonwealth nations and the Tamil diaspora.
